One of the most used transport in Vietnam is the bus. The busses are of good quality and good to use. There are two types of busses you can take: night busses and day busses.

Day bus

A day bus can leave from early in the morning but also around noon. Driving by day can be nice because you can look outside and enjoy your surroundings. The only thing you will definitely notice more than in a night bus is the driver style of the chauffeurs. They drive pretty fast, but you get used to it.

Night bus

Another option is the night bus. Most people like to take a night bus because they do not lose time and save money. A night bus has beds inside were you actually can lay down. It can be a little uncomfortable if you are too long and falling asleep can take a while, but you get used to it as well.

TIPS

The rides can be very long so it is important that you make it as easy as possible for yourself.

Wear comfortable clothes and take a vest with you. You are already not laying really comfortable so if you are wearing clothes that irritate you during the drive, it is going to be a terrible drive. They have air conditioning, so it can get cold in a night bus.
Keep your day pack and valuables with you. You will drop your backpack in the storage where everyone has access to. Keep things such as your passport, wallet etc. with you to prevent theft.
Do not drink too much. You never know when a bus stops for a break.
Take music or a book with you. The drives are long and if you can sleep you want to have something to do. Since it is dark outside, you can not enjoy the view.
Be on time. Drivers really do not wait if they say they do not. Be on time and make sure you are in the bus before it leaves.

Open bus ticket

If you decide to take a bus in most cases, then there is an option for an open bus ticket. You do not have to buy separate tickets anymore and it also saves you some money. The busses depart from central places.

How?

An open bus ticket is valid for five trips in most cases. It does not matter when or where you want to go. All you have to do is ask your accommodation if they want to call the bus company. Usually, it is useful to do this a day in advance. A bus ticket is valid for one month.

Buy tickets

You can buy day or night bus tickets online and at bus stations. 12Go.Asia sells tickets for example. The open bus tickets are available at the companies themself, your accommodation and travel agencies. The prices for an open bus ticket are between 30 and 50 USD. It depends on how many stops you want. The more stops you add, the higher the price.
