The city Hoi An has a lot of charm with it. Of course, food has a big role in this. You will find a lot cozy restaurants that serve great food. A romantic night or just a quick lunch? It’s all possible. Don’t forget to try one (or more) of the specialties below!

Local Food in Hoi An

Cao Lau (rice noodles with barbecued pork)

Fat yellow noodles, slices of juicy pork and served with vegetables, bean sprouts and crispy croutons. You can only get this dish in Hoi An because the noodles can only be cooked in the water from ancient Cham wells.

Try it at Thanh Cao Lau Located 26 Thai Phien Street, Hoi An

Com Ga (chicken rice)

Delicious fluffy rice cooked in chicken stock. The rice is cooked in a mixture of pandan leaves, chicken stock and a tiny bit turmeric in wood-fired clay ovens. Everything gets thrown in a wok and served with boiled, shredded village chicken, fresh herbs, chili jam and pepper. The village chickens are farm-raised chickens with freedom to walk around.
Com Ga Ba Buoi (Ms Buoi Chicken Rice) No 22 Phan Chau Trinh Street, Quang Nam province. Business hours: 11AM – 9PM. Price: VND 30,000 – 55,000 (USD $1.32 – 2.42)

Mi Quang (Quang noodle)

Mi Quang is made from rice noodle and herb, lettuce and the flower of bananas. The yellow noodles are mixed with shrimp, pork and vegetables. The broth can be made from shrimp, fish, crab, chicken, beef or pork bone. Topped with green chilies, lime and rice cracker. Mostly, they use chicken, pork or beef for this dish, but many restaurants now include squid, snails, frogs and boiled quail eggs. For you the option what you want.

Banh Xeo (crispy pancake)

Banh Xeo is used as an appetizer or snack. It’s called ‘sizzling cake’ because of the sizzling sound it makes. This dish is made of rice flour. The pancake consists of water and turmeric. They fill the pancake with pork, chicken, shrimp or beef with sliced onions, mushrooms and bean sprouts. It is a very popular dish in Southern Vietnam.

Banh Dap (Vietnamese rice crackers)

A traditional snack that is made by placing a wet rice paper atop a crispy one. Then it’s layered with some mung bean paste, chopped spring onions and shallots. To finish it, they put another crispy rice paper to cover everything. Use some fish sauce with chilies to maximize the taste.

Hoanh Thanh Chien (fried wonton dumplings)

This snack is a fried wonton dumpling filled with a variety of meat fillings. Fillings like diced pork, shrimp, eggs and spices. The topping they use is a mix of sautéed pork, corn, tomato roulade, coriander leaves and shrimp. A very nice snack or appetizer.
