Danang city became really popular for travellers and it grew a lot the last years. That leaded to the fact that the international restaurants grew as well, but that shouldn’t hold you back from trying the Da Nang’s specialties. 

Danang Local Foods

  • Mi Quang Noodle 
Mi Quang is made from rice noodle and herb, lettuce and the flower of bananas. The yellow noodles are mixed with shrimp, pork and vegetables. The broth can be made from shrimp, fish, crab, chicken, beef or pork bone. Topped with green chilies, lime and rice cracker.  
  • Bun cha ca (fish cake noodle) 
Perfect for seafood lovers. Chunks of grilled fish cakes, bean sprouts, green onions, mint leaves and fine rice vermicelli noodles. The fish you can choose are: mackerel, lizardfish or barracuda. They marinate the fish with pepper, salt, garlic and chili. The broth is a mix of pumpkin, mix of fish bones, cabbage, tomato, pineapple and dried bamboo shoots. The best place to try this is at 109 Nguyen Chi Thanh- Hai Chau district. 
  • Bun mam (noodle salad with pork and anchovy fish sauce) 
This dish consists vermicelli, (roasted) pork, papaya, vegetables, peanuts and anchovy fish sauce. It is simple, but very nice to eat. Try it at Quan 110 Huynh Thuc Khang, Danang. 
  • Banh Xeo (crispy pancake)
Banh Xeo is used as appetizer or snack. It’s called ‘sizzling cake’ because of the sizzling sound it makes. This dish is made of rice flour. The pancake consists water and turmeric. They fill the pancake with pork, chicken, shrimp or beef with sliced onions, mushrooms and bean sprouts. It is a very popular dish in Southern Vietnam.
  • Bun Thit Nuong (vermicelli noodles with grilled pork)
Thin vermicelli noodles with freshly chopped lettuce, sliced cucumber, pickled daikon, bean sprouts, chopped peanuts and mints. The dish is topped with grilled pork shoulder. 
  • Chao Tom (sugarcane prawn)
A grilled appetizer which is made of shrimp and garlic paste. They are wrapped around a piece of sugarcane. The taste is soft, rich and sweet. Dip it in nuoc cham dipping sauce and enjoy eating it while drinking a beer or wine. 
  • Rau Cau Trai Dua (coconut jelly)
Rau Cau Trai Dua can be refreshing on a warm day. It’s used as a dessert in a coconut shell. The bottom consists of jelly that’s made with coconut water and the top layer is custard-like coconut cream.
