Da Nang is the biggest city in Central Vietnam and is mainly used as a transit station to Hue or Hoi an. The city is remarkably Western, with numerous bars and restaurants, skyscrapers and large bridges that connect the area with the surroundings. With the boulevards and colonial buildings along the river bank you can see the French presence in the past.

Da Nang managed to develop into an important port city during the sixteenth and seventeenth century. This was partly because the waterway to the port of Hoi An began to silt up. This growth peaked when Hue became Vietnam's capital in 1802 and Da Nang served as the main location for receiving foreign delegations. The city only really grew during the American war when an airbase was established near the city and the largest concentration was made of American soldiers in South Vietnam.

The city has varies sights, including the magnificent Cham Museum where a huge collection of sculptures is collected. Another reason why people want to visit Da Nang are the Marble Mountains, a collection of religious objects and viewpoints, located in the mountains.
Da Nang has two popular beaches: China Beach and My Khe Beach. China Beach is a thin beach of three kilometers long and popular with local fishermen. My Khe Beach is more popular with water sports enthusiasts. You can practice many water sports such as surfing, kayaking and snorkeling.

The most famous part of Da Nang is the Hai Van Pass. This route brings you from Da Nang to Hue and the other way around. The Hai Van Pass itself is just 21 kilometers and from Da Nang to Lang co is 30 kilometers. You will drive through one of the most stunning mountains in Vietnam with an ocean scenery!

How to get there?

  • By plane

Da Nang has an international airport (DAD) in the center of the city. Because it is an international airport, you can fly there from any location in Vietnam, but also from other places in Asia such as Bangkok and Hong Kong. After arriving at the airport you can take a taxi to your hotel. The average price for the center is about 150,000 VND. Some accommodation also offers a shuttle service.

How long staying?

1-3 days

Top Spots in Da Nang

Marble Mountains

One of the most popular attractions in Vietnam. Five mountains consist of limestone and marble hills. The mountains are named after 5 elements of the universe: Metal, Wood, Fire and Earth. You find tunnels, caves and Buddhist shrines. Many people climb up the mountain to enjoy the spectacular view across China Beach (Non Nuoc).

  • Address: Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District, Da Nang City

Hai Van Pass

It is one of the most famous and taken routes in Vietnam. The Hai Van Pass itself is just 21 kilometers and from Da Nang to Lang co is 30 kilometers, but that doesn’t make it less breathtaking. You will drive through one of the most stunning mountains in Vietnam. Enjoy the island vibe when you arrive in Lang Co and go for a swim. You can make a stop at Bach Ma National Park during the loop and eat some food while enjoying the amazing view.

Best time: Between April and July.

Cham Museum

The museum was built by the French in Gothic style and is has the largest collection of Cham artefacts in the world. Decorative plates, statues, shire and terracotta materials collected in the Cham towers. There is a collection with a total of 500 samples showing the sculptural relics of Cam Kingdom.

  • Address: 2 Thang 9 Binh Hien, Hai Chau, Da Nang

Da Nang Cathedral

The only church that is built in Da Nang during the French colonial period. With a Gothic-style design and an amazing marvelous architectural structure. You will find inside holy pictures and statues illustrated the Bible events as motifs and Western churches.

  • Address: 156 Tran Phu, Da Nang

Da Nang Bridges

Significant for Da Nang are the incredible architectural bridges.

Dragon Bridge: Connects Da Nang International Airport with Marble Mountain and My Khe Beach. Every Saturday and Sunday night at 21:00 is a performance of the dragons spewing fire and sprinkler.

Tran Thi Ly Bridge

The most romantic and poetic bridge of all. With the pink lightning a beautiful bridge to see.

Sun World Ba Na Hill

An eco-resort where you can combine relaxation and entertainment. You can discover the amazing mountain landscape and one of the most impressive cable car in the world. Get in the Alpine Coaster if you are a real speed-lover and play amusing games in the Fantasy park. The area is surrounded by numerous gardens such as a vineyard, a fairytale garden and love gardens.

  • Address: No 93 Nguyen Van Linh St, Hai Chau Dist, Da Nang city, Vietnam

My Khe Beach Da Nang

A typical tropical atmosphere with coconut palm trees, pristine coral reef, white soft sand, clear water and perfect sunshine. It is the perfect place for surfing, fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving. Many delicious seafood restaurants to eat during the sunset.
