Nha Trang is a modern city center, but small enough to have a cozy atmosphere. It has a boulevard full of cafes, restaurants, resorts and stalls. Enjoy incredible fresh fish, fruits or take a massage to relax. The sand beach is lovely and the sea is perfect for snorkeling and diving. Na Trang has everything to treat yourself.

The most popular attractions in Nha Trang are the Po Nagar Cham Towers, Thap Ba Hot Springs, mud baths, fisher villages and the Alexandre Yersin Museum. Another option is to take a boat trip to other islands around Nha Trang, where you can join some snorkeling as well. Nha Trang is very popular with Russian people, so don’t expect too much a Vietnamese culture.

How to get there?

BY PLANE

Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) of Nha Trang is located about 30 kilometers south of the city. You can fly to Nha Trang from Da Nang, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh. International flights from China and Korea.

  • taxi: from the airport to Nha Trang is about 350,000 VND. Try to bargain to 300,000 VND. Try not to drive on the meter, because that will cost more here.
  • pick-up hotel: try to get a pick up from your hotel. They usually charge about 300,000 VND
  • minibus: the minibus costs 65,000 VND. The minibus will drop you at the old airport and you can take from there on a taxi. This will cost less.

BY TRAIN

The train station is located closer to the centre. We recommend to buy a ticket a few days before you leave at you accommodation or at a travel agency.

  • Ho Chi Minh City: about 8 hours, around 400,000 VND
  • Hanoi: 1 day and 2 hours, around 1,000,000 VND
  • Da Nang: about 9 hours, around 700,000 VND
  • Hue: about 13,5 hours, around 450,000 VND

BY BUS

The open bus tour goes to Nha Trang and is easy to arrange. You can buy bus tickets at your accommodation or at a travel agency.

How long to stay?

1-2 days

Nha Trang Beach

The most famous beach known for its unique combination of city and natural beauty. A beach with white powdery sand, surrounded by pretty parks, neat rows of prune trees and creative sculpture gardens. Nha Trang has two beaches where you can enjoy a perfect day at the beach.

  • Nha Trang Town Beach

The most popular one with most tourists. It is 6 kilometers long and the perfect place to relax and take a massage. It is the busiest in the morning, where people train during sunrise.

  • Bai Duong

More hidden from the nightlife and quieter than Town Beach. So if you want to go to a less touristy beach, take a bicycle or motorbike and go to Bai Duong.

Local Food in Nha Trang

One of the most touristic places if you look at restaurants. You’ll find more non-local restaurants than local in the centre, but that shouldn’t hold you back from trying Nha Trang’s specialties, because they are very tasty!

  • Nem Nuong (fermented pork roll)

You can eat this dish fresh or grilled. Mostly, it’s grilled. The roll is served with raw herbs, dipping sauce and pickled green papaya. You can enjoy this dish whenever you want. As a snack, appetizer or with rice or noodles. The grilled pork is heavily marinated in a paste made with sugar, black pepper and garlic. After that they are wrapped around bamboo and grilled until it’s well cooked. Served with a platter of fresh herbs, pickled vegetables and rice paper to wrap all the ingredients together.

Try it at: Nem Nuon Vu Thanh An - 15 Le Loi

  • Bun Cha Sua (vermicelli with fish)

This dish, made of rice vermicelli, jellyfish and steamed sailfish filet is very popular in a place like Nha Trang. With a sweet and savory fish broth and some eateries add in crab, shrimp and pork to ensemble.

Where? you can find it at Bach Dang Street and Nha Trang’s street markets.

  • Bo Ne (Nha Trang beef steak)

A popular dish as breakfast. Marinated skirt steak in various spices that comes with a dollop of pate, eggs and chili sauce. Often served with condiments, toasted baguette and a small serving of fresh greens. Dip the beef in a mix of salt, pepper, lime and use the baguette to polish off the remaining egg yolk and pate from the hotplate.

  • Banh Cuon (rolled cake)

Similar to all the other famous spring rolls in Vietnam. The steamed flower rice papers are filled with ground pork, minced wood ear mushrooms and onions. The rolls are mostly topped with shrimp floss, coriander and herbs. The sweet-sour dipping sauce will finish the dish. You can find them at many street markets and local restaurants.

  • Banh Can (rice cake with quail eggs)

A popular snack in the Central and South regions of Vietnam. The snack consists of rice flour, spring onion, lard and eggs. They are served with a special sweet and sour dipping sauce made from Nha Trang’s famous fish sauce and raw vegetables.

  • Ca Ri Ga (Vietnamese curry)

This Vietnamese curry is served with rice, noodles or a warm baguette. It’s made with chicken, sweet potatoes, ginger, carrots and peas cooked in a rich coconut curry sauce. Comparing to the other curry countries (Thailand, Cambodia and India) is the curry in Vietnam milder and lighter.
