When you’re traveling, it’s sometimes difficult to find the right food for you. But if you’re a vegetarian, you will always feel comfortable in Hoi An. This ancient town provides you not only a nostalgically peaceful atmosphere but a lot of enjoyable vegetarian and vegan restaurants. Let’s take the shortcut to discover these restaurant finds!

If you have already settled down in a good accommodation in Hoi An, it’s time to get out there and find some great food! Mi Quang, bun Hue and many other amazing vegetarian dishes of Central Coastal Vietnam are must-try foods in this town! In this article, we are going to dive into beautiful places to enjoy your vegan and vegetarian meals in Hoi An.

Am Vegetarian Restaurant
A rustic, artistic and retro interior is what you can expect from this delicious restaurant! “Am” means warm, which describes the atmosphere that will greet you with cozy and open arms. You can choose either to enjoy your veggie meal in their open-air garden, or have a seat inside and relax in the artistic interior. This restaurant provides a wide range of traditional Eastern dishes.

Our team highly recommends Thai noodles, fried rice with fish, Thai Pad, and Japanese pancake. You will not only fall in love with the taste, but also get attached to the ingenious food decoration!

Joi | Tra Que Gardens
“At Joi, we believe that a great dining experience isn’t complete without good people – conscientious growers, a passionate local team, and of course, good company to dine with.” Joi | Tra Que Gardens has an extremely vegetarian-friendly menu that brings you an amazing range of organic veggie dishes. Organic vegetables are still expensive to grow and purchase in Vietnam, yet Team Joi works closely with local organic farmers to make sure that they feel good when growing organic products. They believe that good food comes from good people.

Your dining experience at Joi is only enhanced further by the wonderful views of the Thu Bon river ahead of you, where you may even get to glimpse local fishermen at work. It’s a peaceful location, right beside the Tra Que vegetable gardens. The team behind the name are also fantastic, and will make your day extra special.
You can relax, let your body digest the delicious flavors, and inhale the fresh air on the canal bank. The Joi | Tra Que Gardens blends perfectly into the nature of Tra Que herb village, letting you enjoy the most quintessential part of this area.

Barley Vegetarian Restaurant
Clean and neat, Barley Vegetarian Restaurant makes you feel good with their simple decoration and the open-air space. It is suitable to drop by for a quick and tasty breakfast or lunch! The restaurant serves either Vietnamese or Western dishes, most of them are popular cuisines.
Barley is temporarily closed until August for their renovation. You can check their fanpage out for more updates later!

Minh Hien Vegetarian Restaurant
Whether you are looking for a garden view restaurant or a vegetarian cooking class, Minh Hien Vegetarian Restaurant is a perfect choice! Their huge bookshelf caught my interest at first sight. But their delicious traditional Vietnamese cuisines continue to capture my full “stomach’s” attention. You can pick mi Quang or grilled mango rice, which are beautiful options, if you don’t know what to order.

The restaurant provides cooking classes, which last from 8 AM to 1 PM, including a trip around Tra Que Vegetable Village and Hoi An ancient market. Reach out to the restaurant in advance if you wish to tailor your class to meet your special dietary needs, Kosher for example!

Annen Vegetarian Restaurant
As a vegetarian restaurant and yoga center, Annen brings you a perfect healthy combination. Their interior setting sure cools you down after a steaming day exploring Hoi An under its radiant sunlight. And their organic veggie servings refresh and replenish!

If you are an art lover, you can’t miss taking a look at their monthly visual art exhibition where local artists have a chance to display their artworks. Every Friday and Saturday night, there will be live musical performances as well. Expect an authentic local sense of art here!

Karma Waters
As a family social enterprise, Karma Waters provides NPO organic vegan restaurants and tours to support the locals and organize charity work. It is run by a professional vegan chef, who switched into veganism after her special fish-incident. You can read more about Ms. Grace’s interesting story on the restaurant website, but let’s now take a look at what they offer!

Karma Waters has one vegan restaurant in Hoi An and one in Da Nang. Their servings are organic, most popularly known for Vietnamese and Indian cuisines. Their space in Hoi An does not look so fancy, but serves as a nice, clean and neat spot for spending a meal with your group of friends.

There are two vegan cooking classes, the lunch class starts at 10 AM and dinner starts at 4 PM. You can register to go alone or with a group (with a better price) with a maximum of four people.

More interestingly, you can look at their charity programs, which take place daily in Da Nang and Hoi An cities. To briefly summarize, they organize low-price meals every day for the disadvantaged, free vegan meals for patients, and they also support the ethnic minorities in Quang Nam province. Several words cannot encompass what they do for these communities. If you want to know more about these socially-responsible activities, don’t hesitate to contact them!

Apart from these amazing vegan restaurants, you can always stop by a street food vendor if you see the word “Chay” on their stall. If you are a vegan, you need to tell them “koh ahn trehng va suah” (meaning you don’t use eggs and milk). I highly recommend spending some time visiting Tra Que Village so that you can truly witness the beauty of Vietnamese vegetable farms. You will never get bored with being a vegan or vegetarian in this city!
